The Basics of Psychotherapy

woman with depresson

Everyone experiences times when they are overwhelmed by stress and the ability to cope.  Rather than letting life’s challenges overwhelm us, psychotherapy can help.

Perhaps you feel that your relationship is falling apart, or maybe you feel paralyzed by depression or anxiety.  Perhaps you experienced a sexual assault or trauma, or you feel trapped in the midst of an eating disorder.  At these times, it is essential to find hope and allow yourself the compassion to heal.

The decision to begin therapy is a milestone event. I commend you for having the courage to ask for help. I am an experienced counselor for individuals, couples, and families. I offer a confidential and comfortable setting and a listing ear. I help put your mind at ease and embrace hope for the future.

Together, we will build your life into what you want it to be.

Psychological studies show that the best outcomes for successful therapy are when both the client and their counselor feel connected to each other.  With me, you’ll find that I strive to build real relationships, not just someone who gets paid to listen to you.  I deeply respect the process of finding the right therapist, so please take some time to get to know me, and when you’re ready to start in a new direction give me a call.

I am a psychotherapist and Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, trained in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health issues. My holistic approach integrates traditional techniques with these specialized modalities:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

(certified practitioner, member of EMDR International Association)

EMDR therapy enhances the brain’s natural healing processes. Treatment resolves the blockage that accumulates in the brain due to trauma. I  focus on severe and pervasive trauma (PTSD) with compassion and support for survivors. In addition, I incorporate the fundamentals of EMDR into most of the work that I do.

Maudsley Family Based Therapy (FBT)

Maudsley Family Based Therapy (FBT) is a method of working with adolescents and families to treat eating disorders. Research consistently shows this therapy to be effective. Using treatment based on family dynamics over the course of a year brings significant improvement, is cost effective for the payer, and results in low incidence of relapse.

Pediatric Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

(trained through The National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute)
Hypnosis is a natural state of selective, focused attention. It allows you to enter a unique state of consciousness that opens the door to healing, self-exploration, and change.  Hypnosis can assist with managing chronic pain, chronic illnesses, anxiety, and many other psychological issues.
